Volunteer Spotlight: Dawn

Dawn’s Story: A Heart for Service and Connection

For the past 7–8 years, Dawn has been a steady, compassionate presence at Anchor Lancaster. Her journey with us began when she read about Anchor in the newspaper during a time when her church was doing a series on The Purpose Driven Life. Feeling inspired to find a meaningful way to serve, she followed that calling—and we’ve been grateful ever since.

When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering, Dawn lights up when talking about the people. “I love learning people’s names,” she says. “There are a few guests that I know their names and a little of their stories. I love that part.” For Dawn, connection is at the heart of her service.

One moment that’s stuck with her over the years came from a simple but powerful comment by a guest: “He said he feels like a person when he’s here because he gets to sit and eat and be somewhere warm.” That moment reminded Dawn of just how much dignity and humanity are woven into everything we do at Anchor Lancaster.

Dawn is a proud member of the Tuesday volunteer crew, a group she describes as tight-knit and team-oriented. “We all get along and work as a team. It’s a feel-good feeling to be part of Anchor Lancaster—not that that’s the point of serving, to make myself feel good. But it’s a benefit of helping others.”

Thank you, Dawn, for showing up with heart, consistency, and kindness. You make Anchor Lancaster a place where people feel seen, valued, and loved. If you’d like to join our volunteer team, email Kelly@anchorlancaster.org to learn more.
